Osteopathic Cranial-Sacral Technique | 人體結構及骨骼調整 - 顱骶技巧

 — Usable technique. Self-help, or professional advancement.

Osteopathic technique is built to be used.

The aim is application — something you can practise on yourself, and something a practitioner can take into professional work. Self-help and professional advancement are two uses of the same hands-on work.

Understanding Osteopathy is a free educational demonstration of different osteopathic techniques. Osteopathic Cranial-Sacral Technique is one of those techniques.

Two courses sit here:
• Basic Self-Help — Light hands are taught, not born. Welcome with no background. Also welcome if you already finished Upledger CST1 and want the technique to land in the hands.

Six Saturdays from 7 Nov 2026, 16:00–18:00. HK$6,500 / early bird HK$6,000 (15 Oct 2026).

• Advanced Practical —Twenty-two bones. One language. The next usable layer: bones, mouth work, case reasoning. Prerequisite: this Basic Self-Help or Upledger CST1.

Dates TBC; waitlist. HK$8,000 / early bird HK$7,500.

After Basic you may continue with our Advanced Course, with Upledger CST1, or with both. If the goal is an Upledger certificate we do not run CST1 or CST2; we can refer you to Upledger CST1 / CST2 in Hong Kong or Singapore.

⚠ Disclaimer - Educational course only. Not medical treatment, diagnosis or an Upledger certificate. Hands-on care, if booked later, is a separate clinical booking.

Osteopathic Cranial-Sacral Technique: Basic Self-Help Course

Light hands are taught, not born.

Most hands-on methods get results by pressing harder. Cranial-Sacral work here does the opposite: about 5 grams of pressure — the weight of a coin — to feel a subtle rhythm. The method comes from osteopathy (Dr. A.T. Still, Dr. W.G. Sutherland, Dr. John E. Upledger). The hard part is the touch itself. Five grams cannot be learned from a book, a video, or the back row. Someone has to feel your hands and adjust them.

Class size 4–8. In every session Manual Osteopath Dr. PC Lam works with each student in turn. Six Saturday afternoons: safety and quality of touch → rhythm from feet to head → release and still point → the 12-step self-help protocol.

Prerequisite: No background or already finished Upledger CST1 and want the technique to land in the hands.

Basic Self-Help Course (12hrs)

1. Small class of 4–8: in every session the instructor adjusts your hand position, contact and pressure, one student at a time
2. Quality of touch and quiet presence come before technique
3. Taught from the osteopathic source: three lenses of structure, fluid and rhythm
4. Six weekly steps with practice in every session, ending with the full 12-step sequence
5. Taught in person by Manual Osteopath Dr. PC Lam
6. Next: Upledger CST1 and/or AWRTC Advanced. This page does not issue Upledger certificates.

Advanced Practical Course (12hrs)

1. The next step after the 12-step protocol: every cranial bone, one by one
2. SBS and pattern naming give evaluation a shared language
3. Includes mouth work: viscerocranium and hard palate
4. Taught by a Manual Osteopath, small-class practice
5. Sits beside Upledger CST1–CST2 as technique / skill / case work. Next for Upledger certification: CST2.

Basic Self-Help Course (12hrs) a 12-step self-help protocol and a quieter quality of touch. After six weeks you can:

  1. Feel the craniosacral rhythm at heels, pelvis, ribs, shoulders and head, and describe it with SQAR (symmetry, quality, amplitude, rate)
  2. Use a steady 5-gram touch, personally tuned: grounded and neutral, listening instead of pushing
  3. Recognise signs of a release (softening, warmth, fluid-moving sense, a deep breath) and wait
  4. Guide a still point
  5. Carry out the 12-step self-help protocol from feet to head
  6. Explain in plain words how meninges, CSF and fascia link head and sacrum
  7. Know the limits: when not to apply the work, when to stop, when to send someone to a doctor
  8. Keep a short daily self-care practice

You receive: personal hand tuning each session; AWRTC certificate on passing the oral exam; eligibility for the Advanced Course.

Advanced Practical Course — named bones, mouth work, case reasoning you can practise. After the course you can:

  1. Find the neutral zone and name a pattern by its direction of ease
  2. Choose indirect or direct technique and finish in neutral
  3. Evaluate SBS motion patterns in a vault hold
  4. Locate and lightly contact occiput, sphenoid, temporals, parietals, frontal, ethmoid
  5. Carry out mouth work for face and hard palate, with gloves and consent
  6. Explain why face work changes arousal, and why drainage of the head depends on the cranial base
  7. Take a case, set evaluation order and give reasons for technique choice

You receive: AWRTC Advanced Course certificate.

Two directions: look after yourself, or take the skill into professional work. Not an Upledger licence.

Basic Self-Help Course (12hrs)

1. Teaching frame: dura, cerebrospinal fluid and related bones from skull to sacrum
2. Very light touch to sense a subtle rhythm and to encourage a rest-and-repair response
3. Research on CST is still developing and results are mixed; this course is educational and complementary, and makes no treatment claims
4. Classroom anatomy: meninges / reciprocal tension membrane; dural tube attachments; CSF; fascia and transverse diaphragms

Advanced Practical Course

1. Teaching frame: Sutherland cranial osteopathy and Upledger CranioSacral Therapy as classroom lineage.
2. Anatomy: cranial bones, sutures, meninges, trigeminal nerve, venous sinuses and jugular foramen
3. Research on CST is still developing and results are mixed; educational and complementary only

Basic Self-Help Course (12hrs)

1. Welcome for all; no craniosacral background needed
2. Also welcome after Upledger CST1 if you want the skill to land
3. Bodyworkers adding a light-touch skill
4. Age 18+; techniques taught for use on people aged 7+
5. Serious or acute issues, pregnancy, chronic illness: ask a doctor before enrolling

Advanced Practical Course

1. Prerequisite: AWRTC Basic Self-Help or Upledger CST1
2. For technique, skill and case application
3. Age 18+; techniques for people aged 7+
4. Serious or acute issues: ask a doctor before enrolling

FAQ | Frequently Asked Questions

That hour is a free educational demonstration of different osteopathic techniques. Cranial-sacral is one of them. This page is the skills path for that one technique — Basic Self-Help and Advanced.

  1. Orientation: three lenses, principles, contraindications and red flags.
  2. Anatomy essentials.
  3. Presence and quality of touch.
  4. Rhythm: SQAR and listening-stations lab.
  5. Release phenomena and the still point.
  6. The 12-step self-help protocol.
  1. Review and the language of patterns: neutral zone, indirect and direct technique.
  2. Sphenobasilar junction (SBS).
  3. Neurocranium, bone by bone.
  4. Mouth work: viscerocranium and hard palate.
  5. Trigeminal nerve and reticular alarm system.
  6. Venous sinuses and jugular foramen.
  7. Case reasoning.

Some bones of the face and hard palate are reached gently from inside the mouth. Practice with gloves, clear communication and consent beforehand. Either person can stop at any time.

Only if you already have Upledger CST1. Otherwise take Basic Self-Help first.

Basic = 12-step self-help protocol from feet to head.

Advanced = the bones behind that protocol, plus mouth work and case reasoning.

AWRTC Basic Course certificate on passing. Oral examination 100%.

This is not an Upledger certificate. For Upledger certification the usual next steps are CST1 then CST2, run by Upledger. If you want Upledger certification we refer you to CST1 / CST2 in Hong Kong or Singapore.

Osteopathic technique here is built to be used — self-help you can take home, or skill for professional advancement. We teach technique, skill and case work you can take home and keep practising. It is not a contest with Upledger, not a cheaper substitute, and not a higher rung on their ladder.

No craniosacral background: start with Basic Self-Help.
Already finished Upledger CST1 and want the skill to land: Basic Self-Help is still welcome.

After Basic Self-Help you may take our Advanced Course, Upledger CST1, or both. Advanced requires Basic Self-Help or Upledger CST1.

If the goal is an Upledger certificate: we do not run CST1 or CST2. We refer you to Upledger CST1 / CST2 in Hong Kong or Singapore. Teaching and certification stay with Upledger.

Students must be 18+. Techniques taught are for people aged 7 and above only.

Do not self-apply, and consult a doctor first, if: recent head trauma, brain haemorrhage or aneurysm, abnormal intracranial pressure, acute fracture, fever or acute infection, serious or unstable medical or mental-health conditions. Pregnancy, chronic illness or current medication: consult a professional first.

Loose clothes and socks; a light blanket. No recording or redistribution of class content. Do not attend if unwell. Stay gentle. Follow the instructor.
