Not a treatment done to you,but a way of knowing yourself again
Awareness · Release · Harmony
Jin Shin Jyutsu® is an ancient Japanese healing art, rediscovered by Master Jiro Murai in the early twentieth century, with its principles recorded in ancient texts such as the Kojiki. In practice, the hands rest lightly on 26 Safety Energy Locks on the body to release blockages and let life energy flow again. It involves no massage, no manipulation of muscle and no medication — a non-invasive approach whose purpose is to awaken the body’s own capacity to restore balance. All courses are offered for educational and general wellness purposes.

26 Safety Energy Locks, letting energy flow again
The body has 26 Safety Energy Locks — points along the pathways through which life energy travels. When one or more become blocked, energy stagnates and cannot complete its full circulation, which in turn affects physical and emotional balance.
The practitioner rests both hands lightly on the corresponding energy locks, over clothing if preferred, applying no pressure and no rubbing. This is not a transfer of energy from practitioner to recipient; it strengthens the flow of the recipient’s own energy. Each session follows a set opening and closing sequence — a systematic, grounded method rather than something guided by intention alone.

Rediscovered in Japan by Master Jiro Murai and systematised on the basis of the Kojiki and other ancient texts.
Safety Energy Locks, forming the basis of the entire self-help and practitioner repertoire.
Brought to the United States by Mary Burmeister in the 1950s, who began teaching in the 1960s.

The questions people ask most about Jin Shin Jyutsu
If your question isn’t answered below, please get in touch.
01 What is Jin Shin Jyutsu®?
Jin Shin Jyutsu is a Japanese art of energy harmonising, rediscovered by Master Jiro Murai in the early twentieth century, with its principles found in ancient texts such as the Kojiki. It is practised by resting the hands gently on the body’s 26 Safety Energy Locks to release blockages and return life energy to harmony.
In the 1950s Master Murai passed the teaching to Mary Burmeister, who brought it to the United States and began teaching in the 1960s. Thousands of people worldwide have studied it since.
02 Is Jin Shin Jyutsu the same as Reiki?
No — this is the most common misunderstanding. There are two main differences:
- Learning Jin Shin Jyutsu requires no attunement ceremony; it is a body of knowledge learned progressively.
- The practitioner does not give their own energy to the recipient. Placing the hands on the corresponding energy locks strengthens the flow of the recipient’s own energy.
Jin Shin Jyutsu also follows a set opening and closing sequence, making it a systematic and grounded method.
03 Can I learn it with no background at all?
Yes. The self-help course is designed for the general public and requires no medical or therapeutic background. Learning Jin Shin Jyutsu is itself a process of getting to know yourself — coming to understand the body’s wisdom through your own hands, learning to read the signals it gives, and using them to restore balance.
If you’re still unsure, start with the free taster session and decide once you’ve tried it.
04 Does a session involve massage or medication?
No. Jin Shin Jyutsu involves no massage, no manipulation of muscle and no medication of any kind. The hands rest lightly on the energy locks, over clothing if preferred, with no pressure applied. A full session usually takes about an hour.
05 Can Jin Shin Jyutsu replace seeing a doctor?
No, and it is not intended to. Jin Shin Jyutsu is an art of self-awareness and self-care, and makes no claim to replace diagnosis or treatment by any medical institution. If you have health concerns or are currently under treatment, please continue to follow the advice of registered healthcare professionals, and treat Jin Shin Jyutsu as a form of daily self-care alongside that.
